Aaron Craig is an Australian illustrator who specializes in making fusions of different characters that appear in cartoons from the seventies, eighties, nineties and two-thousand.
Aaron calls his fusions “Pop Mash.” He mixes characters from different universes, you can use someone from The Simpsons to mix with another character from the Hanna Barbera universe. And for some strange reason, the fusion is perfect.
The new characters keep essential parts of each of the two characters merged, so that you can recognize the head or body of each character without problems.
This type of pop art is in fashion, I have seen many illustrators on social networks, copying the same style. They use cartoon characters in their art pieces. I don’t know how they do with the copyright issues of the characters they use in their illustrators.
I don’t know if artists can get into legal trouble for doing this kind of work. I understand that Aaron’s illustrations fall into the fan art category, therefore they are derivative works.
Fusion of cartoon characters from different universes
Leaving aside the legal part, Aaron Craig’s illustrations are great. If your childhood happened in the eighties or nineties, it will not be difficult for you to recognize the characters that appear in the illustrations.
Since I was born in the eighties, I can easily recognize all the characters in He-Man and Hanna Barbera.
If you really like Aaron’s work, you can buy some of his illustrations. It puts up for sale some of the fusions it makes, they are limited pieces, so you should be attentive when it puts it up for sale.
A printed copy of Aaron Craig’s illustrations costs $ 100 dollars. You can use these illustrations as a piece of decoration, because at the moment this type of art is in fashion to decorate workspaces.
