Seeing these types of designs for me is very fascinating, because somehow I can see how graphic designers see Mexican culture abroad.
Because this project has a unique mix of various pre-Hispanic graphic elements, there is also a cross between typical Mexican drinks. And to crown the project there are a couple of words, –that for some strange reason-, the designers associate with Mexico.
First of all, we will have to make a quick review of the product that I want to share today.
It is a beer that is marketed in Poland. The name of the beer is: Slowly. The first graphic element that stands out is the label on the bottle: it is an illustration of the Stone of the Sun.
The next item that causes confusion in this product is —TEQUILA—. Because inside the bottle there is beer, but on the label, just below the illustration of the Stone of the Sun is printed the word: Tequila.
Polish beer inspired by Mexican graphic elements
That is why at the beginning of the article I mentioned that the mixture of elements that Polish designers used to branding the drink is interesting.
I guess the name of the beer was taken from the song that bears the same name. But it turns out that Despacito is a song written by: Erika Ender, Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and they are not Mexican.
Then the illustration of the Piedra del Sol, they have nothing to do with beer or tequila. The only alcoholic beverage the Aztecs drank was Pulque.
And the word Tequila, I find no relationship, or justification to put it on the label. The beer may taste like tequila, but I don’t know that.
What I can imagine is that the Polish creatives in charge of the project, designed with some of the Mexican elements, better known abroad. They mixed them as best they could and as they liked the result they put it on the label of the bottle.
As I know they have done it, I am excited that a group of Polish businessmen took Mexico as inspiration to make their beer.
When I visit PolandThe first thing I’m going to do is go into stores looking for one of these beers. To see the label and to check if they taste like tequila if they have a beer flavor.
