Dolby Laboratories, Inc is a company founded in 1965 by Ray Dolby. The company specializes in developing procedures to improve the quality of both analog and digital sounds.
It is very likely that you have seen the logo of the company at the beginning or at the end in a movie you saw in the cinema, the first movie that used Dolby sound was A Clockwork Orange in 1971. Since then the company has developed a new technology called: Dolby Digital. That you can find it both in movies and movies that you see on your home television.
All of the above the dolby logo it is so common to see it everywhere, that it is not paid much attention anymore.
A few months ago the company presented an update to its logo. Now the new logo has the name «Dolby»In lowercase and the letters«D»Are now black.
New Dolby company logo
By the way the origin of the letters «D»In the symbol of the logo, it is due to the name of its founder: Dale Dolby. But it also has another meaning, it is assumed that the two letters «D», Form the outline of a funnel. The funnel makes the sound perfect when it comes out of it, therefore the audio has a better quality.
But there is another interpretation of the logo, it is the one that I imagined every time I saw the Dolby logo. You can find the name of the company in movies like: «Dolby Digital». That is why I believed that the two letters “D” were the initials of the company name.
I like when companies present new designs of their logos, that respect the graphic style of the old logo. The new Dolby logo can be used in many ways. There are versions of the logo on a white background or on a black background.
In addition, the company can use only the symbol, in different applications. As for example you can see in the video above, where the letters «D»Are used as a kind of window where you can see a portion of the video or a small animation.
I really liked the new design, it will not be difficult at all to get used to it every time I see it. In fact, I like the new logo better than the original.
What do you think, did you like the new design or do you prefer the original design?
