Who else but a Japanese design studio to create a watch with a design as impressive as the «Cubic clock». The peculiarity of this watch is that twice a day (12:00 am and 12:00 pm) a perfect and solid cube is formed.
The other hours of the day you can see the time thanks to the pair of hands that are formed from one of the corners of the cube.
The Japanese studio Nendo designed the watch to celebrate the 40th anniversary of a luxury watch retailer called: «The Hour Glass».
Like any good artist, the justifications they give are a bit bombastic, but I think that in this case they fit perfectly for the type of watch so exclusive.
The designers of the Cubic Clock say that the goal of the clock is:
Blur the lines between art, design and watches. It is an object that indicates the time, but it is also an object of our time whose form and aesthetics capture the best qualities of the current good design.
A clock that transforms into a perfect cube twice a day
So only 10 of these watches were manufactured and they will be on the vein in an exhibition that lasted a couple of months in one of The Hour Glass stores.
I guess the price of one of these watches was very high, due to the low production of parts and the exclusive design and the store that sold them.
It is a watch with a very intelligent design, to use as a piece of art decorating a house space. Because it would be very difficult to read the time on that clock, the only easy time to know would be 12 in the morning or 12 at night.
Because the hands watches take a few seconds to know the exact time. Now with this clock that no numbers have, surely we would only be guessing the time.
Anyway, it is a watch with an impressive design, surely another studio already copied the idea and soon we will find it in Chinese stores for a few dollars.
